A superb win for the First Team in their last away tie of the season. at Cowley 3.

There was an initial bad start when I was outplayed by my opponent and slipped below 50% for the First Team

But things were soon looking up when both Simon and Matt won their games.  Matt has in fact won all three games he has played for Wantage 1.  That left three games in play and the outlook was promising all round.  Roly won the exchange, but his adversary had a pawn for this and Roly had finally to settle for a draw.  Andrew looked to have an edge , and was able to reject a draw offer but, horror of horror, in the knight ending he dropped his knight. Fortunately, his opponent was so short of time, the best she could do was to force  a stalemate

Meanwhile Mirka had been resisting attempts to exchange off major pieces until it was favourable to arrange this and win her game. So it was 4 -2 to the team, this also being the first loss in Division 2 for Cowley 3 (we had drawn with them in the reverse fixture).  We can look forward to our last three matches, which are all at home, with some confidence.  Cumnor, Bicester and University are our visitors on May 2, 9 and 16 respectively
