Although the match was lost 2-4, there were plenty of opportunities on many boards.

Firstly congratulations to the Kachkanov family, who contributed both points, Bayr catching his opponent out with a back rank mate (and providing the first point for a junior this year), and Slava winning on time in a closely fought match.

At one point it looked as though Derek was a certain loss, being several pieces down, but when I returned several moves later he had reduced his deficit to a few pawns, but more importantly looked likely to promote a pawn. A victory now looked on the cards, but his opponent took advantage of Dereks poorly defended King and mated him.

Idun again went down a bishop early in the game, but fought hard well into the end game, but could never recover from the poor start.

I didn’t catch much of Paul’s match, but he was a rook Vs rook/knight in the end game and resigned in the face of an unstoppable pawn.
