If we had any illusions about our matches in Division 1, these were soon dispelled in this heavy defeat at the hands of Cowleys best.

We can have no complaints about our losses on Boards 1 and 5 . However, we had chances in 4 of the games and the match score does not really reflect how competitive things were.

Roly was a pawn up in a queen and pawn ending, but fell into a snap mate when he had at least a draw in hand.

Peter was a bit behind materially, but even when he was playing with R+B versus Q, I thought he had some drawing chances.

Martin's game was a lively one with both players attacking.  His opponent lost queen for rook, but had seen that he was going to promote a pawn for a new queen.

It fell to  Simon  to save the whitewash.   Playing a pawn down in a rook and minor piece ending, his knight check ensured the win of the exchange but with much reduced material and lack of time he was not going to be able to win it so a draw was agreed.
